Dynamic Web Applications
From the OSEDA / MCDC Web Sites
This page provides links to a variety of custom applications that allow the user to select options and
generate custom data reports, extracts, charts, maps, etc. Unless otherwise specified, all these applications were developed by the
Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis,
most of them under contract with the Missouri Census Data Center. We encourage users to let us know their thoughts about these applications (including suggestions for new or enhanced ones) via e-mail to John Blodgett
at OSEDA.
- Demographic Profiles
One of our specialties is creating demographic profile reports based on decennial census data. On this page we provide links to a whole series of menu-based applications that lead to such profiles. (This link actually takes you to a key point within the page where we provide descriptions and links to the various profile types. First time users will want to start at the top of this page for orientation.)
- CAPS
The Circular Area Profiling System program lets you specify a point in the United States and a
radius (or radii). It delivers a standard demographic profile for each circular area specified.
- Uexplore (with Dexter)
This is a family of related applications that allow you to explore the MCDC/OSEDA public data
archive somewhat as you might explore your PC's C: drive using Windows explorer. The front page provides a mini-directory to the data archive as well as links to more detailed information about the application.
This software got a major facelift in 2003, with the new dexter ("data extracter") module taking over most of
the work that was previously done by 3 separate xtract modules. Intended for the more serious and sophisticated data user.
- MABLE/Geocorr2k
The geocorr2k application provides access to the MABLE geographic data base
that allows you to retrieve codes, names, pop counts and geographic correspondences to a wide array of
geographic coverages such as counties, ZIP codes, cities, metro areas, etc. This is the 2000 version. An earlier version provides similar processing capability to a database using 1990 (and some 1980) census geography.
- Missouri County Data
This is not a single application, but rather a map-based interface that lets you choose any county in the state of Missouri by clicking on a map. It brings up an intermediate menu for that county with links to a variety of applications/web pages with data related to that county.
- MoDOT Socio-Economic Resource Page
This page was custom developed by OSEDA for the Missouri Dept of Transportation. It provides links to a wide variety of reports, maps, charts, etc. organized by MoDOT geography and focusing on data items deemed to be relevant to transportation planning. Contains a link to a
Data Query application that allows custom access to data and reports.
- County to County workflows
Very simple but useful application if you want to know how many people commute into or out of a specified Missouri county broken down by the county of origin or destination. Uses a Census 2000 special tabulation file based on long-form (sample) data.
- SF3 Table Generator
This application needs work to make it more user friendly. Allows you to specify a dataset, a
geographic entity and a series of table codes from the 2000 Summary File 3 product. Output is a
full display of those tables for that geographic area.
- A similar application is available for SF1 tables.
- Format Table Lookup
The Missouri Census Data Center maintains a set of format tables that consist of codes and
their meaning. For example the county format table has entries such as '29001'='Adair MO'. What this application lets you do is to specify the name of a format code and the argument (code). It returns the label for that code. An option allows reversing the lookup, where you enter the name and have it return the code.
- 1990 Basic Tables
Need some data from the 1990 census for anywhere in the country? This is still a popular application, even if the data are over 10 years old now.
This was popular before the release of the 2k census and there is still some historical interest.
The application lets you choose your geography (anywhere in the U.S.) and demographic detail (age,
race, sex and Hispanic origin) as well as the years (1990 thru 1999). Output reports are dynamically generated.
Note: All the applications referenced on this page are written entirely or primarily using the SAS software package with the SAS/IntrNet tools.
